I got Steve to make a sound file of my rendition of “On Fanö” in Edinburgh on 6th August, as I think both his recording and I do the song justice. The lyrics are here, alongside a video of me performing it for my first-year students on 9th May. I would seem to have improved tremendously in the course of those three months. One significant additional factor is that on the first occasion I hadn’t drunk a couple of pints of ale beforehand.

Sorry I missed the live performance! Fantastic lyric and simple atmospheric tune – rings a chord with all of us who have fled Caledonia, or indeed any other homeland, for pastures new. A love message to boot. Lots of brownie points with the wife for that one!

Cheers, Mike! Yeah, it was a shame you couldn’t be there. Another time hopefully. Speaking of which, my sonnet, “Hope”, was one of eight pieces that Ann included in her latest book, The Woman with the Beautiful Garden, which she launched a year ago yesterday. See http://gists.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/hope/.
